I am blogging this because I was the first one in my whole group to finish and I am really proud of this.
I really enjoyed using my reading skills to put my story in my own words.
Also I really enjoyed this task.
We were learning about how potato plates were made.

Week 8 - Camp Kaitawa


I am blogging this because I really liked camp and I liked doing this task.

We were learning about camp and where it was and what we are exited about and are fear.

Camp Kaitawa

Please do activities 1-6, then 2 out of the last 7, 8, 9 and 10.


Task 1
Facts and Opinions
Facts are things that are the truth (There are 78 students in Rimu hub)
Opinions are things that people believe that may not be the truth (Blue is the best colour)

Glow worms
Find out 5 facts about glow worms.
1 A glow-worm uses its glow to invite insects to dinner.
2 Insects fly towards the glow and get stuck in the sticky lines that the glow worm makes like spiders web.
3 It also uses its glow to turn other creatures off eating it.
4 It makes its tail glow using bioluminescence which is a chemical reaction between a chemical the glow worm makes called luciferin mixes with air.
5 That chemical reaction gives off light.







What is your opinion about people visiting glow worms? What are the positives and negatives of it? P that they can light up something.

Create a life cycle of a glow worm digitally. This is an example of a life cycle.






Task 2
Survival in the bush
We will be doing some bush walking on camp. Everyone will need a backpack with items in it, just in case. Write down five things that should be in your backpack, and explain why they are important. Water, because you need water to survive. Food, so you don’t starve. Flashlight, so you can see. Batteries, so when your flashlight goes flat you put the new ones in.  Sunscreen, so you don’t burn.





Task 3
Safety around water
At Camp Kaitawa, there is a lot of water. There are many lakes in the area. How do you stay safe around water? Write down five safety rules. Wear a life jacket, don’t run in unless you're aloud to, Stay away from the water, ask the teacher first and tell the adult.

Task 4

Find out the name of the large lake near Camp Kaitawa. (It is the 14th largest lake in NZ). Write down it’s name, and find out 5 interesting facts about it.

Lake Waikaremoana. Lake Waikaremoana is located in Te Urewera National Park in the North Island of New Zealand,

It covers an area of 54 km². 0 kilometres northwest of Wairoa and 80 kilometres west-southwest of Gisborne. From the Maori Waikaremoana translates as 'sea of rippling waters. Lake Waikaremoana is a holiday destination by people who use the lake for fishing, tramping and other recreational activities.

Task 5
Persuasive writing
Your teacher will be making groups for activities, transport and sleeping. Choose a classmate that you would like to spend some time with, and convince your teacher to group you together. You could write a paragraph, record a video, or come up with another creative way.

Taylor and James because we are really good friends and we play together a lot and also we all love soccer and computer games.




Task 6
Goal Setting
Set yourself a personal goal for camp. Explain what the goal is, and how you will go about achieving it.
Don’t fool around and work together.





Task 7
Use google maps to work out how far away the camp is.
Write down how far away it is, how long it will take to get there, and the name of the main town we will go through on the way.
The camp is 189 km with traffic.
And the main town is Kaitawa

Task 8
At Camp Kaitawa, there is a hydroelectric dam. Explain what this is and how it works.
The hydroelectric dam is two tubes with water in them. It works by the water flowing through it.

Make a prediction
What do you think you will see at camp. Write down your prediction as a piece of descriptive writing.

Maths Task

SCHOOL GARDEN
This task is about showing how to solve multiplication problems.
Some students are setting up a school garden.
Do not use a calculator to answer the maths problems below.
a)   Hohepa planted 9 rows with 8 tomato plants in each row.
Show how to work out how many tomato plants he planted altogether.
9 x 8 = 72
9 x 2 = 18
9 x 2 = 18
9 x 2 = 18
9 x 2 = 18
18 + 18 = 36
18 + 18 = 36
36 + 36 = 72
Answer: 72

b) Paul planted 7 rows with 20 carrots in each row.
Show how to work out how many carrots he planted altogether.
7 x 20 = 140
7 x 2 = 14
Answer: 140
c)   Iritana planted 5 rows with 14 lettuces in each row.
Show how to work out how many lettuces she planted altogether.
5 x 14 = 70
5 x 10 = 50
5 x 4 = 20
Answer: 70
d) Doug planted 6 rows with 15 strawberry plants in each row.
Show how to work out how many strawberry plants he planted altogether.
6 x 15 = 90
6 x 10 = 60
6 x 5 = 30
Answer: 90
